Works OK but should be louder September 7, 2010 BoolaPS (AZ) My 8 year old son is a very heavy sleeper. The alarm and vibration is not enough to wake him up. However, through the process of wearing this he is starting to wake up more easily when it goes off. However, now I'm getting used to the sound and I am sleeping through it sometimes. Son is sleeping in same room while we're using the alarm so he can be closer to the bathroom and so I can help him when needed. It is getting better but it will be a process of several months before we are fully successful, I believe. If decibel ratings are included in the description of these items, I would recommend an alarm that is louder than this one.
Does not work for my son September 7, 2010 Bethany My son is nine years old and really wants to learn to stay dry at night so he can go on overnight trips with other boys. We were given a hand-me-down alarm (since it was used we did not have the packaging so we had no idea what brand it was). It helped him tremendously for him a few weeks but eventually broke.
I purchased this alarm a few weeks ago and it has not worked nearly as well as the one we had previously. The first few nights, it would not go off until he had fully soaked his underwear and sheets. Then, the next few days it went off numerous times before he wet at all, keeping him from falling asleep to begin with.
I am very disappointed in this product and feel I've wasted fifty dollars. My son is very frustrated at his lack of progress with the new alarm.
I was skeptical, but it's working! August 28, 2010 Derrick My son has been struggling with wetting the bed for some time and this was a last ditch effort before trying some medication. I was very skeptical that this would have any real effect, but I wanted to give it a try before having my son take medications.
We quickly found out that our son was wetting the bed 2-3 times a night. We were all very tired after the first two weeks of use. However, after the second week, we started seeing some real improvement. He was waking up quicker and was wetting himself less and less. We are starting week 4 and he only wets one time a night and it isn't very much at all. He wakes up one other time to go to the bathroom on his own. This is real progress and we are very thankful for this product. Hopefully in a few more weeks, he'll be making it through the night with no incidents.
Don't be discouraged, follow the directions, and give this product time to work. We are very impressed and it was well worth the investment.
Worried from past reviews, but so very thankful we went ahead with it August 23, 2010 Little Elephant Company 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When our son turned 7 years old, we had enough of waiting for him to grow out ofthe bedwetting. Our pediatrician recommended an alarm, and we purchased the Potty Pager for $75 since it only vibrated and did not have a cord or sound to wake his brother. We sent it back within 2 weeks as the sensors were extrmely small and took quite a bit of moisture to set it off. The batteries began to corrode already, and our son didn't want to wake up because the vibration "felt good."
So, we purchased the WetStop. This worked amazingly well. The sensor was large enough and sensitive enough to go off as soon as he began to pee. Sometimes it would even go off when he was just putting it on because his hands were damp from just washing them. Within a few days he began to have dry nights, and within a few weeks he was completely dry. He has now been sleeping without the alarm for a week and has had no problems.
The sound wasn't too loud that his brother slept through it, but since the alarm part is next to his ear and vibrates, it woke him up quickly, and he is an extremely deep sleeper. I just wish we hadn't waited so long to purchase the alarm!
This works! August 23, 2010 Lynn This item really works. We have an 8 year old that sleeps deeply, and we were not sure how to get him to wake up and go to the bathroom when needed. I could tell he had to go from the rustling around, but he did not awaken. He wanted to quit using night pants and leaking, so we bought this. The first few nights were tiring--we got up multiple times to the alarm, but by the end of the night he actually got up with only a spot on his underwear, which was an advance. The first few days were the hardest--but I just tried to remember that I had less sleep when he was a baby and survived that! After two weeks he was anticipating the alarm and staying awake in fear of it, so I switched it to vibrate only. This worked because he was used to getting up to go based on a cue already. This took his fear of the buzzer away. It really isn't obnoxious and I could easily hear it from our bedroom, but at this juncture, switching to vibrate mode worked. It has now been over three weeks and he only got up once this morning with dry underwear to go to the bathroom! We still put night pants over the underwear for insurance, but since they have repeatedly dry, we just reuse them from night to night. Hopefully we are on our last package of those! That was good advice from another review here. Read the longer ones that describe the process before you start--I actually printed one to supplement directions for how to use it. The night pants hold the extra cord, too, so it doesn't get tangled around his arm at night. Our son sleeps on his tummy, so we hook it on his pj top with the unit facing in, so he feels the vibration better. I still need to wake up with him to get the alarm off, but when it is only once a night or so, it isn't much of a problem. I also got to know his pattern and so I could take the whole thing off after 2:30 or 3 am because he was basically "done" for the night with the potty. Don't give up early on though! There were a couple of nights just took it off since we were both tired and needed sleep, but he didn't want to quit the next night. We didn't and it is paying off. It does work, but you have to commit to doing it. It is worth it, though.
