Every day, dermatologists observe the severe skin damages caused by UVA and UVB ray exposure.
UVB rays mainly cause burning. They are stopped by the epidermis. They cause tanning and are responsible for sunburn. SPF or "sun protection factor" is the degree of protection a sunscreen offers against UVB rays.
UVA rays mainly cause aging or sun allergies. They penetrate deeper into the skin than UVB rays and can reach to the dermis. UVA rays directly contribute to skin aging (wrinkles, sagging, dark spots) and are the #1 cause of sun intolerances (allergies).
Both UVA and UVB rays have been proven to cause damage to skin cells, including DNA, and to weaken the immune system. These damages potentially lead to the development of skin cancer.
A pioneer in UV protection research for over 15 years, La Roche-Posay, with Anthelios, is trusted by dermatologists worldwide for its advanced formulations in UVA protection.

5 out of 5 stars Lightweight   July 10, 2010
MT (Corona, CA United States)
Very lightweight on the face. I did not smell any type of chemicals at all. Did not burn at all on the beaches in Hawaii, and I burn easily. You may think the bottle is small, but a little goes a LONG way. Very fluidy, not thick like most sunscreens. Don't squirt a big glob out like you normally would (my son made that mistake!!)

5 out of 5 stars La Roche-Posay Anthelios   June 30, 2010
M. Powell (Kentucky)
This product is a great product if you are looking for a non-greasy sunscreen for your face. I had received a sample with another skin care purchase and decided to give it a try. I apply a very small amount (a little goes a long way) to my face, forehead, and neck just a few minutes before applying my regular make-up (which has no sunscreen protection). The product goes on very smoothe and dries quickly. Hours later my make-up still looks the same with no increase in oil/shine. I have not used this product in the water but only while riding motorcycles. I am very particular with my skin care products but I have been very pleased with this one. I have not experienced any additional skin irritation or sunburn to my face while using it. I have used and still use other La Roche-Posay skin care products as well.

5 out of 5 stars Liquid Sunblock   June 17, 2010

This sunblock turned out to be a pleasant surprise - very light and not greasy at all. Amazon pricing was most competitive - get 2 bottles to avoid shipping charge.

1 out of 5 stars Not proven effective against UV-A   June 15, 2010

This version of "Anthelios" does not contain mexoryl, which is the most effective UV-A blocking agent. Don't buy this version of "Anthelios;" instead, look at the other Anthelios products that DO contain mexoryl. If you want a non-mexoryl sunscreen (which I don't recommend, since they are less effective against UV-A), then go with the Neutrogena productd that contain "helioplex," The lower SPF "dry touch" versions are reasonably effective, feel better on the skin than any other sunscreen I've tried, and are way cheaper than this product.
Having said that, the mexoryl-based sunscreens are more effective than the Neutrogena, so are probably worth the extra cost. Bear in mind that UV-A causes cancer, but not sunburn. A sunscreen that protects against sunburn, is not an effective anti-cancer agent unless it also protects against UV-A. Most sunscreens that claim UV-A protection only provided it for half an hour or so. Mexoryl, on the other hand, lasts several hours.

5 out of 5 stars Love this stuff!   June 12, 2010
N. wight (Woodinville, WA)
I have vitiligo and have been using regular Anthelios for years. But I love the thinner formulation, especially for my face. It feels so light and non-greasy...while protecting my skin.
I also like the fact that it is a thin container and can be carried in my purse. It doesn't seem like there is alot in the container, but it doesn't take much and goes a long way.
